Try together
Three low-pressure speaking games to try together
Everyday ways to make room for ideas, listening and a little imagination.
Tell the story of an object
Choose an everyday object and take turns imagining where it has been. A pencil might have visited the moon; a spoon might be a tiny boat. Adults can go first. Let your child choose how much of the story to share, without correcting every sentence.
Build a story one sentence at a time
Begin with a simple opening such as 'We found a small door in the garden.' Each person adds one sentence. Listen to the previous idea before adding the next. The aim is a shared story, not a polished performance.
Explain your favourite small thing
Invite everyone to talk about a favourite snack, game, place or character, and one reason they like it. Ask one curious question and give the speaker time to answer. Offer a pass if someone would prefer to listen.
Keep the experience comfortable
Choose a short, relaxed moment and enjoy the ideas together. Avoid turning it into a test, posting a recording without permission or comparing children. These are general activities to try at home, not an individual assessment or a detailed YSGI syllabus.
